There is no one denying that email subject lines or blog titles are pivotal for getting readers to actually open your content.

An email subject line can make or break your email campaign.

In fact, studies have shown that you can increase your conversion rate by 73% if you use a compelling headline.

While you may not think about it, the same is true of your tweets!

Check out these 5 tips for getting more clicks from your Twitter headlines.

4 Twitter Marketing Tips for Better Results

Split test your headlines.

It’s completely normal to A/B split test your images for ads or your email subject lines, so why not split test your Twitter headlines?

While split testing on social media is a little more difficult, it still is possible to get reliable results.

Start by finding two headlines that you think will perform well for promoting your link. Tweet both of them an hour apart in either the morning, afternoon or evening. For example, try once at 9AM and once at 10AM, or once at 2PM and once at 3PM. I do recommend tweeting when your ideal client is online so the weekends might be a good time to split test. If you dont know the best times for tweeting, use Tweroid. Compare the results you get for each.

In addition to finding your best Twitter headlines, this is a good way to find the best headlines for your blogs or email subject line.

Use action words.

Tweets that contain more adverbs and verbs have higher click through rates than tweets with lots of nouns.

Make sure you’re using plenty of action words and that you periodically tell people exactly what you want them to do. For example, Click the link to download, or Click the link to learn more. According to Twitter, this will increase your clicks by an average of 13%.

The same goes with asking for retweets. Tweets with an ask to retweet increased Retweets by an average of 311%.

Create longer headlines.

Dan Zarrella studied 200,000 tweets that contained links, as well as the CTR that the links in those tweets generated. At the end of his study he found that for tweets with up to approximately 130 characters, as the length of the tweet increased so did the CTR.

While that may seem surprising (shorter is often better), the results are pretty clear: to increase the number of click throughs for your tweets you should tweet longer headlines. Just dont go beyond 130 characters.

Move up the link.

Where do you put your link when you’re tweeting? If you’re like many, you’re probably putting it at the end.

However, you can increase your click through rate by placing your link 25% of the way into the tweet. While it may sound strange, don’t make your tweets shorter just move the link up until it’s only about one-quarter of the way through the tweet.

Tweet on the weekends.

This is especially true if your ideal client is a consumer and not another business on Twitter.

People are hanging out on social media more on the weekends, so tweeting more on the weekend is going to increase your click through rate. However, you should check out the Twitter tool Tweroid if you need help figuring out when your ideal client is online.

Final Thoughts

Twitter is a great place to share content and a great resource for driving massive traffic.

However, you do want to put some thought into the content you share there if you want to maximize your Twitter marketing strategy.

Hopefully these five tips will help you to increase your CTR on Twitter and increase the amount of traffic to your site.
